Since winning the Norwegian Conducting Competition in 2010,
Lars–Thomas Holm has forged a distinctive career on the podiums of Nordic and International orchestras and worked closely with some of the most distinguished conductors of our time. Lars–Thomas currently holds the position of Principal Conductor with Ålesund Symphony Orchestra. He was the Assistant Conductor for the world famous Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, where he worked closely with the British Chief Conductor Edward Gardner for three years.
Lars–Thomas is also in demand as a freelance conductor and has conducted the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra, the Arctic Philharmonic and the Norwegian National Youth Orchestra. He has also appeared with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, the South Denmark Philharmonic, the Malta Philharmonic, the Baltic Philharmonic, the Counterpoint Chamber Orchestra on Taiwan, the Danish Sinfonietta, and the Berlin and Trondheim Sinfoniettas. He has conducted all of Norway’s military bands and the Norwegian Wind Ensemble.
Lars–Thomas has collaborated with maestros Sir Mark Elder, Juanjo Mena, Jesus López Cóbos, Thomas Søndergård, Krzysztof Urbański, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, Ole Kristian Ruud and Eivind Gulberg Jensen as an assistant conductor. Soloists who have worked with Lars–Thomas include Sir Bryn Terfel, Alisa Weilerstein, Lise Davidsen, Mari Eriksmoen, Caroline Wettegren, Tine Thing Helseth, Håkon Austbø, Arve Tellefsen, Ingrid Andsnes, Charlie Siem, Audun Iversen and Ragnhild Hemsing.
Lars–Thomas studied conducting with Ole Kristian Ruud and Sigmund Thorp at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, and privately with Bjarte Engeset. He has participated in master classes with conductors Michail Jurowski, Jorma Panula, Andrew Manze, Martyn Brabbins, Stefan Solyom and Alexander Kantorov.
In addition to his conducting work, Lars–Thomas is a respected musicologist. He is currently studying for a PhD on performance practice while creating new critical editions of orchestral works by the Norwegian composer Ludvig Irgens-Jensen. He studied composition with Bjørn Kruse, Olav Anton Thommessen and Asbjørn Schaatun and orchestration with Olav Berg. Lars–Thomas signed to Nordic Artists Management in 2016.
